The Go, Diego, Go! Diego Saves Christmas! DVD will teach preschoolers about where animals live and some animal characteristics, while also presenting how Diego and his friends and family at the Animal Rescue Center celebrate Christmas. Preschoolers can watch this Diego episode to get into the holiday spirit while also learning new facts about llamas and how these South American animals can help people do work.
Christmas Diego Episode Diego Saves Christmas!
As this Christmas Diego episode opens, Diego and his family and friends are preparing for Christmas at the Animal Rescue Center. To make sure that Santa does not overlook any animals, the preschool viewer must help Diego put a sign in front of each animal home to draw Santa's attention to these animals. Diego helps children learn about different animal habitats by asking kids to answer questions about where each animal lives – for example, if an armadillo lives in a hole or on rocks.
Suddenly, Diego hears an animal calling for help. With the assistance of Click the camera, the preschool viewer helps Diego determine that the animals needing rescue are Santa's reindeer, who are in trouble because Santa's sleigh (which is full of presents) is stuck on a snowy mountain. Diego needs the help of Linda the llama to reach Santa and free the sleigh so that Christmas can be saved and everyone can receive their presents.
Nickelodeon TV Show Teaches About South American Animals
Along with learning about animal homes at the beginning of this Diego episode, the young viewer also learns several facts about llamas and how their attributes help people. For example, Linda's strength and ability to pull heavy loads makes her the perfect animal to free and pull Santa's sleigh, and a llama's padded feet help Linda climb the snowy and icy mountain to reach Santa in the first place. Providing children with concrete examples of how useful the animal attributes are will help kids remember this new information.
Better yet, at the end of the episode, Diego (as usual) reviews the information, quizzing children about where llamas take baths, what they eat, where they live, and what kind of feet they have. Repeating and reinforcing these facts will also help children retain what they have just learned about these interesting and useful South American animals.
Go, Diego, Go! Diego Saves Christmas! DVD Review
Families interested primarily in Christmas specials for preschoolers will want to rent, not buy, this Diego Christmas DVD. Although the episode Diego Saves Christmas! does show holiday preparations and encourages children to help Santa deliver presents to the animals, overall the emphasis is on learning about llamas and other animals. The other three Go! Diego! Go! episodes included on this Diego video – Pepito's Penguin School, A Blue Morpho Butterfly Is Born!, and Save the Sea Turtle – are also all eduational, but none have anything to do with Christmas or the holiday season.
Preschoolers may also enjoy other educational Christmas DVDs for preschoolers or videos about winter holidays, such as Dora Celebrates Three Kings Day! or Dora the Explorer: Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure.
